A burglar who smiled for selfies with stolen keys from a Mercedes has been sentenced to prison. Alongside his accomplice, James Moore, 30, was found guilty after breaking into a home in Disley, Cheshire, and stealing two luxury vehicles valued at approximately £150,000.
The incident occurred on November 12, 2023, when the duo targeted a residence and made off with a Mercedes-Benz and a Range Rover. The theft was reported to local authorities shortly after the break-in, prompting an investigation by the Cheshire Constabulary.
As part of their investigation, police discovered photos on Moore’s phone where he posed with the stolen keys. These images proved vital in linking him to the crime. Detective Constable Sarah Lewis of the Cheshire Constabulary emphasized the importance of digital evidence in modern investigations, stating, “In this case, the selfies provided a crucial breakthrough that led us to apprehend the suspects.”
Following a thorough investigation, both Moore and his accomplice, Thomas Smith, 28, were arrested. The Chester Crown Court sentenced Moore to four years and six months in prison, while Smith received a sentence of three years and nine months for his involvement in the crime.
