Lifeguard Dies After Tragic Incident at Brazilian Water Park

A lifeguard tragically lost his life while performing his duties at Wet’n Wild water park in Itupeva, Brazil, on March 5, 2024. Guilherme da Guerra Domingos, 24, entered a pool to retrieve a tourist’s ring but became trapped in the facility’s drainage system. Despite the swift response of his colleagues, who pulled him from the water and initiated first aid, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to Nossa Senhora Aparecida Municipal Hospital.

According to a police report, the incident occurred at an attraction known as Water Bomb. Concerns arose when Guilherme did not resurface after diving into the water. Lifeguards quickly entered the pool to rescue him, but efforts to revive him were ultimately unsuccessful. The police investigation revealed that he was sucked into the pool’s drainage system, leading to his drowning.

Wet’n Wild confirmed that Guilherme had been with the park for over two years, having been promoted to sector leader in October 2023. In a statement, the company noted that the Water Bomb attraction does not feature a bottom drain. Instead, it utilizes side drains that are positioned away from the water slide exit and visitor exit points.

Park Compliance and Safety Measures

City officials stated that Wet’n Wild is operating in accordance with all required regulations and documentation. They emphasized that the occupancy permit for each attraction is valid and that the park possesses a current Fire Department Inspection Certificate (AVCB).

In light of the incident, Wet’n Wild announced the temporary closure of the park and expressed its condolences to Guilherme’s family. The company is cooperating with authorities as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy continues.

Guilherme’s body has been transported to the Forensic Medical Institute in Jundiaí and was later released for burial in Bragança Paulista. The local community is mourning the loss of a dedicated lifeguard who was well-regarded by his colleagues.

As investigations proceed, the focus remains on ensuring the safety of water park attractions and preventing similar accidents in the future.
