Urgent: Pipeline Repair in Hyderabad Restores Water Supply

URGENT UPDATE: A major pipeline rupture in Hyderabad’s Manikonda has been swiftly addressed, restoring water supply to affected areas. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) confirmed that repairs began just hours after the incident, which occurred at approximately 2:40 am near Nagulamma temple on Tuesday.

The critical 1,200 km pipeline, which runs from Khanapur to Bojagutta, burst early this morning, leading to significant flooding in residential colonies. Water supply was immediately shut off at 3 am to prevent further damage, with officials acting quickly to mitigate the situation.

According to HMWSSB MD Ashok Reddy, repair operations commenced at 7 am, utilizing 1,150 MS barrels to replace the damaged sections of the pipeline. Reddy emphasized that water supply will be restored in phases once the repair work is completed, addressing the urgent needs of residents.

Areas affected by the disruption include Kokapet, Gandipet, Manikonda, Narsingi, Manchirevula, Puppalguda, and parts under the Bojagutta and Shaikpet reservoir commands. The high-pressure burst released a substantial volume of water, inundating several streets and basements in nearby residential colonies.

Fortunately, the nearby Pandena Vagu (canal) played a crucial role in draining large amounts of water, helping to avert more extensive flooding. HMWSSB has deployed water tankers to these areas to ensure residents have access to water while repairs are underway.

This incident highlights the vulnerability of urban infrastructure in Hyderabad. Residents are urged to stay updated on the status of water supply restoration and to report any issues to local authorities. As work progresses, further updates will be provided by the HMWSSB.

Next steps: Residents can expect phased restoration of water supply as repairs are finalized. Authorities urge patience and cooperation as they work to resolve this urgent issue.
