Urgent Arrest After Taxi Crashes, Reverses into Driver on Fincham Road

UPDATE: A taxi crash in Huyton has led to the urgent arrest of a driver after the vehicle smashed into a parked van and reversed into the van’s owner, knocking him to the ground. The incident occurred on Fincham Road at approximately 9:05 PM on December 31, leaving the victim with a minor head injury.

Witnesses report that the van’s owner attempted to retrieve the taxi driver’s keys after the collision. Instead, the taxi reversed into him, prompting immediate calls to Merseyside Police. Officers swiftly located the taxi on Mulgrave Street, where they detained the driver, a 41-year-old man from Toxteth. He has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving, careless driving, and failing to stop after a collision.

Authorities confirmed that the injured man was transported to the hospital for treatment.

“When drivers get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol or drugs, they jeopardize the safety of everyone on the road,”

stated Roads Policing Chief Inspector Stuart McIver. He praised the quick actions of the van owner, highlighting the potential danger the driver posed.

In response to this alarming incident, Merseyside Police emphasized their ongoing commitment to road safety. Chief Inspector McIver noted,

“We will continue to proactively patrol to prevent reckless driving that risks serious injury or worse.”

The police are engaged in a year-round initiative, including the recent Operation Limit, which saw hundreds of arrests during December’s drink and drug driving campaign.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant. Anyone witnessing incidents of drink driving is encouraged to report them immediately to Merseyside Police via their official channels, including social media and their website. For emergencies, always call 999.
