UPDATE: Two women have been charged in a shocking murder case following the brutal death of a father found in a field in Inverclyde. The body of Robert Best, aged 50, was discovered with stab wounds near High Mathernock Farm in Kilmacolm around 9:20 AM on November 11. Authorities report that Mr. Best had been reported missing from Greenock earlier that same day.
A murder investigation was promptly launched, leading to the arrest of two men, Andrew Brodie, aged 51, and Stephen Shields, aged 44. They face charges of allegedly stabbing Mr. Best to death at Shields’ flat on Lansbury Street on November 10. Officials claim that the men attempted to conceal their crime by wrapping Mr. Best’s body in a rug and transporting it to the field where they tried to set it ablaze.
Both Brodie and Shields made no plea during their court appearance and have been remanded in custody. The investigation took a dramatic turn when detectives arrested three additional individuals, including two women, aged 41 and 64, who have now been charged. They are scheduled to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
The third individual, a 41-year-old man, has been released pending further inquiries, while a 45-year-old man was previously arrested in connection with an assault and has also been released.
This disturbing case highlights the urgent need for community vigilance as police continue their investigations. The emotional impact on Mr. Best’s family and friends is profound, as they grapple with the violent circumstances surrounding his death.
Next Steps: Authorities are expected to provide further updates as the investigation unfolds. Community members are urged to come forward with any information that could assist detectives in their inquiries.
