Two Charged with Selling Fraudulent Covid-19 Vaccination Records

URGENT UPDATE: Two individuals have been charged with serious criminal offenses related to the alleged sale of fraudulent Covid-19 vaccination records. Ian Taylor, 42, and Abbey-Leigh Coates, 25, both from Darlington, appeared at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on Monday after a joint investigation by the National Crime Agency and NHS England.

Authorities allege that between June 2021 and January 2022, Taylor and Coates created and sold 1,168 fraudulent vaccination records, raking in over £200,000 from unsuspecting members of the public. These records were reportedly generated at a local health center, allowing unvaccinated individuals to bypass travel restrictions during the pandemic.

The case has drawn significant attention due to the involvement of organized crime, with suspicions that healthcare professionals were recruited to assist in producing these fraudulent documents. This alarming trend highlights the lengths to which some individuals went to exploit the pandemic’s challenges for financial gain.

Following their court appearance, the cases of Taylor and Coates have been adjourned, with the next hearing scheduled for March 30, 2026, at Teesside Crown Court. Two additional suspects, Christopher Thompson, 36, from Horden, and Shahid Hussain, 33, from Middlesbrough, were also due to appear but were unable to attend. Their cases have been rescheduled, with Hussain set to appear on March 16, 2026, and Thompson on April 6, 2026.

This developing story raises serious concerns about public health safety and the integrity of vaccination records during a global health crisis. As authorities continue to investigate, it remains crucial for the public to stay informed about such fraudulent activities.
