URGENT UPDATE: South Shields resident Joe Larkin is set to embark on a remarkable challenge, running for 30 hours straight at Monkton Stadium in Jarrow. The event kicks off at 9 AM on Saturday, November 29, and will continue until approximately 3 PM on Sunday, November 30.
This extraordinary feat is not just about endurance; Larkin aims to bring the community together and support those struggling with mental health issues. Following his previous long-distance runs from South Shields to Paris in 2024 and Madrid earlier this year, Larkin is focused on creating a local impact.
“I wanted to do something else that no one has really done,” Larkin stated. “This one is really about bringing the community together.” He invites anyone facing mental health challenges to join him on the track for a run, emphasizing the importance of connection and conversation.
As the clock ticks down, Larkin is in peak training mode, stating, “I’m feeling strong for it, training is going well.” He acknowledges the mental and physical challenges of running continuously on a track, especially through the night. “It will be me against my own head running around the same loop for 30 hours,” he remarked.
Spectators and participants are encouraged to attend, with Larkin hoping to inspire others through his struggle. “I want someone out there to watch my struggle and hopefully I can show them that we can always put one foot in front of the other and keep going,” he added.
Larkin’s initiative highlights the importance of community support and mental health awareness. For those interested in joining him, Larkin can be contacted on his Instagram: @joelarkinnn.
As the event approaches, excitement builds in South Tyneside. This is not only a test of physical endurance but also a heartfelt call for solidarity and awareness in mental health. Stay tuned for updates on this inspiring local event.
