Guest Arrested After Trashing Newcastle Hotel Room, Leaving Blood

UPDATE: A guest has been arrested after causing extensive damage at the Crowne Plaza in Newcastle, leaving blood on the walls and floors. Alexander Sweeney, 32, faces serious allegations after reportedly trashing his hotel room, resulting in claims of £3,000 in damages.

The incident unfolded in the early hours of September 21, when hotel staff were alerted to a disturbance involving Sweeney and his partner. Upon entering the room, the manager discovered a chaotic scene: blood smeared across the walls and floors, a smashed framed picture, broken glass scattered on the carpet, and an air conditioning control unit torn from the wall. Additionally, a damaged light fixture lay in disarray, curtains were ripped down, and a shattered drinking glass added to the destruction.

Prosecutor Clare Haswell detailed the shocking findings in Newcastle Magistrates’ Court, stating, “The manager was told that the defendant was covered in blood. Staff inspected his room and saw it was severely damaged.” Sweeney, who had traveled from Scotland for a night out, claimed to have no memory of the events that transpired.

Sweeney was arrested at the scene and later pleaded guilty to criminal damage. His defense attorney, Peter Doherty, argued against the hotel’s damage claim, stating, “I don’t think the value of the damage is £3,000 like the hotel are claiming.” Despite his remorse, Sweeney has been ordered to pay £400 in compensation and a £150 fine.

District Judge Paul Currer addressed the severity of the situation, noting the extent of the damage throughout the room. He stated, “For one reason or another, you were injured and caused damage to the room. All aspects of the room were damaged, by blood or breakages, but I think £3,000-worth is a bit unbelievable.”

This shocking incident highlights the potential consequences of unruly behavior in public accommodations and serves as a stark reminder of the responsibilities that come with travel. As authorities continue to address such cases, the impact on both the guests and the establishments involved is profound.

With more details emerging, the case raises questions about accountability and the threshold for acceptable behavior in hotels. As the story develops, many are left wondering how such a situation escalated to this level, leaving a significant mark on both the guest and the hotel.
