Cardiff Man Overcomes Crohn’s to Run 155 Miles for Charity

UPDATE: A remarkable story has emerged from Cardiff as 20-year-old Jaydon gears up for an extraordinary challenge, running almost 155 miles this January to raise awareness for Crohn’s & Colitis UK. After spending over a year in the hospital battling an incurable bowel disease, Jaydon is proving that resilience can lead to incredible change.

Diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at just 12 years old, Jaydon’s life was drastically altered by relentless symptoms including constant diarrhoea, debilitating bone pain, and extreme fatigue. These challenges forced him to miss significant time at school and led to multiple hospitalizations. “It massively impacted my childhood,” Jaydon shared. “I dealt with so many symptoms that made me feel really unwell.”

Despite these struggles, Jaydon has turned his life around. He now runs a successful car detailing and valeting business in Cardiff, allowing him to work flexibly around his health. However, he still faces daily challenges, including managing pain and concerns about toilet access. He is currently on the waiting list for stoma surgery, a procedure that could provide him with much-needed relief.

As part of his commitment to raising awareness, Jaydon is participating in Crohn’s & Colitis UK’s Big Winter Workout challenge. Throughout January, he will run 5 kilometers every day, totaling almost six marathons by the end of the month. “I’m finally feeling healthier but still want to get fitter,” he explained. “I really want to raise money for the charity as I still think there’s a lot of misunderstanding about what Crohn’s is and just how serious it can be.”

Crohn’s disease, a chronic condition that causes inflammation of the gut, affects many individuals in the UK. According to Crohn’s and Colitis UK, around one in five patients undergo stoma surgery within five years of their diagnosis, often resulting in a significantly improved quality of life.

As Jaydon embarks on his challenging journey, he hopes to inspire others facing similar battles. His story not only highlights the realities of living with a chronic illness but also emphasizes the importance of understanding and supporting those affected by it.

With January just around the corner, Jaydon’s challenge is set to raise crucial funds and awareness for Crohn’s & Colitis UK, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of those living with these conditions. Follow his inspiring journey and consider contributing to this important cause.
