URGENT UPDATE: A remarkable story of courage unfolds as Ollie Noble, a 6-year-old boy from Ryton, has just received a prestigious Braveheart award after a harrowing battle with cancer. This inspiring journey follows a serious setback that led to sepsis, where his family feared they might lose him.
Ollie was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia at a young age, undergoing rigorous treatment at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. His fight has been anything but easy—he faced multiple challenges, including a life-threatening infection that led to a temporary coma. His father, Dave, shared the emotional moment when they thought they had lost him, stating, “We genuinely thought we had lost him. It was one of those horrible dramatic moments—but a doctor came in, gave him an injection, and was able to bring him around.”
Now, Ollie is back at school, thriving and earning top marks in maths and reading. He is not just surviving but excelling, being described as a “little maths genius.” During a ceremony at St James’ Park, where he was honored, Ollie stood proudly with his family, including his older brother Max, who has helped him raise over £1,000 for Children’s Cancer North through a sponsored run.
At the Bravehearts ceremony, charity trustee Chris Metcalfe highlighted Ollie’s inspiring journey. “From relearning how to smile, walk, and communicate, Ollie has fought his way back with incredible determination,” Metcalfe noted. “His courage and resilience make him a truly deserving Bravehearts award recipient.”
The Braveheart awards celebrate children and teenagers battling serious health conditions, with Ollie being one of 20 young honorees this year. The event saw notable figures, including newsreader Carol Malia and paralympian Josef Craig, present awards, while famous personalities like Alan Shearer and Mark Knopfler sent video messages of support.
In more than 35 years, 776 children have been honored by the charity, which has created a “very special family” of brave young warriors. The Brave Hearts of the North East charity has inspired many since its inception in 1989 and continues to uplift spirits through their bi-annual ceremonies.
As Ollie returns to a full-time school schedule, his father expressed pride in his son’s achievements: “He’s absolutely smashing it.” This story of resilience and determination not only highlights Ollie’s strength but also serves as a beacon of hope for others facing similar battles.
