Team Cherry has confirmed that it is developing new content for the acclaimed game Hollow Knight: Silksong, hinting at significant updates while refraining from providing a specific timeline. After its launch, Silksong achieved remarkable success, selling millions of copies shortly after release and surpassing the five million player milestone almost immediately. The game earned a low-90s average on Metacritic, garnered high user ratings, and peaked on Steam with over half a million concurrent players.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Team Cherry’s co-founders, Ari Gibson and William Pellen, revealed that they are already working on fresh content for Silksong. While they did not disclose specific timelines for these updates, Gibson mentioned that the team is exploring various ideas to enhance the gaming experience. He stated, “We are looking at what else can we do, what else can be brought to the experience and how that world can expand.”
Gibson emphasized that the development process is driven by passion. The team aims to pursue concepts that excite them, ranging from minor updates to larger expansions akin to the previous content release, Godmaster. Acknowledging the extended development cycle of Silksong, Gibson explained they did not initially plan for a seven-year timeline, but they remain committed to a development approach that evolves naturally.
Pellen added that they have begun creating new content and working on various elements, promising to maintain more frequent communication with the community now that they have substantial developments to discuss. One of the anticipated features is the return of the long-teased character, Steel Assassin Sharpe, along with other ideas that were either cut or reimagined prior to the initial launch.
Looking beyond Silksong, the interview also highlighted Team Cherry’s future intentions. Gibson stated that they plan to venture into new creative territories outside the Hollow Knight universe. He described ambitious new worlds filled with expansive spaces, unique characters, and formidable bosses. The team clarified that while they are not fatigued by the Hollow Knight franchise, they are eager to explore different genres and themes before eventually returning to the universe of Pharloom.
