Rhys Norrington-Davies has been named in the Cymru squad for their final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein and North Macedonia. The decision follows the withdrawal of key players Ben Davies, Ben Cabango, and Kieffer Moore due to injury. Norrington-Davies, who hails from Aberystwyth, joins Cardiff City’s Isaak Davies in the latest call-ups by head coach Craig Bellamy.
Cymru’s Campaign Status
Cymru currently sits third in Group J, trailing leaders Belgium by four points. Although automatic qualification remains a possibility, the more realistic route to the World Cup involves securing a play-off spot. This can be achieved either by finishing second in the group or through last year’s success in the UEFA Nations League.
Norrington-Davies has not yet featured in this qualifying campaign, having been an unused substitute during September’s matches against Kazakhstan and Canada. However, his recent performance at club level has earned him another opportunity. Since joining Queens Park Rangers (QPR) on loan from Sheffield United late in the summer transfer window, the 26-year-old has established himself as a vital player, starting seven of the last nine league matches.
Upcoming Matches and Expectations
Cymru will travel to Vaduz to face Liechtenstein on November 15 (kick-off at 17:00 GMT) before hosting North Macedonia at Cardiff City Stadium on November 18 (kick-off at 19:45 GMT). As they prepare for these crucial matches, Bellamy has urged his squad to finish the campaign on a high note.
Belgium, currently undefeated in the group, also has two remaining fixtures against Kazakhstan and Liechtenstein. The outcome of these matches will play a significant role in determining Cymru’s chances for progression.
