The young female basketball team Budućnost Bemaks has taken significant steps towards qualifying for the Top 8 phase of the WABA League. With two victories on their home court at the Bemaks Arena, the team has now achieved a mixed performance at a recent tournament held in Sofia, Bulgaria.
In their initial match during the tournament, Budućnost faced a tough challenge against the local team, Šampion, ultimately losing 60-49. Despite a strong start, the Podgorica-based squad struggled to maintain momentum. The home team secured their victory largely through free throws, executing an impressive 30 attempts. For Budućnost, Vasilisa Miljanić led the scoring with 18 points, while Lucija Baković contributed 10 points. Other noteworthy performances included Martina Terić with 9 points and Blanka Jovović, who added 6 points along with 7 rebounds.
Following the setback against Šampion, Budućnost bounced back in commanding fashion against Banovići, winning decisively with a score of 77-47. The match showcased the team’s strength as they established an early lead with a 15-4 run. They dominated the second quarter, beginning with a stunning 17-1 start, highlighted by a three-pointer from Jovović that extended their lead to 42-16. Banovići managed to score their first field goal of the quarter only 49 seconds before halftime, bringing the score to 42-20.
In this match, four players from Budućnost recorded double-digit scores: Miljanić with 19 points, followed by Jovović and Baković with 17 points each, and Terić with 13 points. The contributions did not end there, as Racković and Jovana Vukmirović added 4 points each, while Jovović and Mia Radović chipped in 3 and 2 points, respectively.
The final league tournament for Budućnost is set to take place in Zagreb, where they will face off against Zagreb and FSV from Rijeka. The team hopes to secure at least one victory to ease their path into the Top 8 phase of the competition.
