A Hartlepool entrepreneur is spearheading a charitable initiative to support the local Salvation Army’s Christmas appeal, aiming to provide gifts to children facing poverty in the North East of England. Aiden MacIver, 31, is leveraging his own charity to deliver a significant number of presents to those in need this holiday season.
According to MacIver, the child poverty rate in the North East stands at a concerning 31%, significantly higher than in other regions, such as London. He emphasized the pressing need for support, stating, “I understand people aren’t in the best financial situation and it’s a big ask this close to Christmas. But there are lots of gifts on the appeal’s wishlist for £1 or £2 that could make a child’s Christmas a little bit better.”
Previous Success and Current Goals
Last year, MacIver’s efforts through his charity resulted in over 100 toys being donated to children in similar circumstances. He hopes to surpass that achievement this year by promoting the appeal’s Amazon wishlist, which features items ranging from £2 to £20. Every gift purchased will go directly to the Salvation Army’s Christmas Present Appeal.
The deadline for donations is set for December 5, 2023, although MacIver noted that contributions can still be accepted after this date to accommodate late requests. His commitment to tackling child poverty goes beyond just toys; MacIver is also fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support through his original single, “A New December,” which can be found on its Go Fund Me page.
MacIver’s initiative highlights the importance of community involvement during the festive season, particularly in regions where economic challenges are prevalent. He continues to encourage residents to contribute to the cause, no matter how small the donation may seem, as every little bit helps brighten the holidays for those less fortunate.
As the holiday season approaches, efforts like these remind us of the power of generosity and the impact each individual can make in their community.
