Michael DeLano, Star of Ocean’s Eleven, Dies at 84 in Las Vegas

Michael DeLano, known for his roles in films such as Ocean’s Eleven and Commando, has passed away at the age of 84 following a heart attack. His wife, Jean DeLano, confirmed that he died in a hospital in Las Vegas on October 20, 2023.

DeLano achieved recognition for his portrayal of a casino manager in the 2001 heist film Ocean’s Eleven, a role he reprised in the sequel, Ocean’s Twelve, released in 2004. His film career also included a notable performance as car salesman Forrestal in the action classic Commando, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Early Career and Musical Talents

Born as Michael Ace Del Fatti on November 26, 1940, in Virginia, DeLano was raised in Philadelphia. His father, a pilot, tragically passed away before his birth. DeLano served as a paratrooper in the US Army before venturing into entertainment. He gained early fame as a dancer on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand, where he began receiving fan mail.

He signed with Swan Records in 1960 under the stage name Key Larson, producing songs like “A Web of Lies” and “A Little Lovin’ Goes a Long, Long Way.” The name DeLano was adopted after he saw a neon sign in Hollywood. His stage presence grew with a performance in the musical Hair in Chicago, leading to his Hollywood career where he appeared in films like Catlow (1971) and The New Centurions (1972).

A Multifaceted Career

DeLano’s television credits are extensive, featuring roles in popular shows from the 1970s and 1980s, including Rhoda, where he played Johnny Venture, and Firehouse, as firefighter Sonny Caputo. He also made guest appearances in iconic series like The A-Team, Wonder Woman, Starsky & Hutch, and Charlie’s Angels.

In his later years, DeLano showcased his musical talents at the Dispensary Lounge on Tropicana Avenue in Las Vegas, a venue that became a home for his performances since he moved to the city in 1992.

Following his passing, a celebration of his life is scheduled to take place at the Dispensary Lounge on Sunday. He leaves behind his wife of 28 years, Jean, and their family, including daughter Bree and grandchildren Michael, Lincoln, and Jaxon.

DeLano’s contributions to film and television have left an indelible mark on the industry, and he will be remembered for his vibrant performances and engaging personality.
