Farr High School Stages Memorable Pantomime Performance

Farr High School delighted audiences in December 2000 with its engaging pantomime, titled Abbanezer. This lively production featured a large and enthusiastic cast, who took spectators on a whimsical journey through the life of Abbanezer, a philanthropist from Melness. The story depicted how the influence of the Christmas Spirit and the antics of Abbanezer’s wife led to significant changes in his life.

In true pantomime fashion, the performance concluded on a high note, showcasing the power of community and friendship. The musical elements, heavily inspired by the hits of the 1970s supergroup Abba, added a nostalgic and energetic flair to the show. Music teacher John Barlow played a pivotal role in bringing the production to life, ensuring that the songs resonated with audiences of all ages.

The star of the show, an unusually versatile pantomime cow, captured the hearts of attendees and became a memorable highlight of the performance. At the end of the show, audience members generously contributed to the cow’s pail, raising an impressive £192 in donations. This money will likely support various school activities, reinforcing the community spirit that the pantomime embodied.

The role of the Spirit of Christmas was played by science teacher Craig Bailey, who donned one of the few costume parts in this vibrant production. His performance, alongside the rest of the cast, contributed to a festive atmosphere that resonated with the audience.

Overall, the pantomime was a testament to the talent and enthusiasm of Farr High School’s students and staff. The combination of music, comedy, and community engagement created a memorable experience that will undoubtedly be cherished by those who attended.
