Schools in Wrexham and Flintshire Celebrate Kindness and Creativity

Schools across Wrexham and Flintshire recently engaged in a variety of initiatives designed to promote kindness and creativity among students. Notable among these activities was the celebration of World Kindness Day, which saw pupils from Ysgol Tanyfron partake in a challenge organized by Taylor Wimpey North West aimed at fostering small acts of kindness within their communities.

Ysgol Tanyfron students embraced the spirit of the day by reflecting on what kindness means to them and implementing ideas to uplift those around them. Acts of kindness included writing poems, creating posters, and personal gestures such as offering hugs to classmates in need. One student, Elennii from Year 6, provided comfort to her peers, while Elsie, also in Year 6, donated her toys to children in Ukraine. Another student, Piper, assisted an elderly woman by picking up her groceries.

In a show of appreciation for the students’ efforts, Taylor Wimpey donated £200 towards new equipment for the school. Carly Harris, acting head at Ysgol Tanyfron, expressed gratitude for the donation, stating, “The School Council will be using the money to develop our outdoor area and to purchase equipment that supports pupil’s health and wellbeing.”

Lucy Houlihan, marketing manager for Taylor Wimpey North West, highlighted the importance of the day, stating, “World Kindness Day is a lovely reminder of how simple gestures can make a real difference.” She praised the thoughtful ideas generated by the students, emphasizing the company’s commitment to supporting local initiatives.

In addition to the kindness challenge, Taylor Wimpey organized a coffee van at its Kings Moat Garden Village development, offering free hot drinks to residents as a small gesture to brighten their day.

Ysgol Bryn Alyn Hosts Workshops to Foster Creativity

Meanwhile, at Ysgol Bryn Alyn in Gwersyllt, students participated in a series of workshops aimed at enhancing creativity, literacy, and teamwork. Recently, the school concluded its Wilderness Tribe workshop series, where pupils crafted their own leather wallets, from design to completion. This initiative was made possible through support from the local authority and the Shared Prosperity Fund.

The school also hosted the Street Dragons programme, which integrated literacy with design skills as students created match day programmes. This project focused on persuasive writing and layout, with the winning design set to be used as the official match day programme, providing students with a unique opportunity to see their work in action.

Students explored media literacy through a BBC Bitesize workshop titled “The Other Side of the Story,” where they learned about bias in reporting and the necessity of critical thinking when consuming information. To showcase their understanding, pupils created TikTok videos demonstrating how stories can be told from various perspectives, enhancing their skills in digital storytelling.

The School Council at Ysgol Bryn Alyn also held a constructive meeting, where representatives from each year group contributed valuable ideas for improving facilities and planning future events. Their input is vital for shaping positive changes in the school community.

In a display of competitive spirit, the Year 7 tournament team recently participated in an event at Ysgol Morgan Llwyd, where they showcased determination and pride while learning new skills.

These initiatives reflect a broader commitment among schools in Wrexham and Flintshire to foster kindness, creativity, and community engagement, demonstrating the positive impact of collaborative efforts between schools and local organizations.
