Burnside Primary School to Host Annual Christmas Fayre on December 6

Burnside Primary School in Rutherglen is gearing up for its annual Christmas fayre, set to take place on December 6, 2024. The event promises to bring together the local community for a day filled with festive activities, games, and shopping opportunities. Organised by the school’s parent council, the fayre will run from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, inviting families and residents to partake in the celebrations.

The parent council, a registered charity, plays a pivotal role in coordinating the fayre. This year’s festivities will feature a variety of engaging activities, including games, home baking, and a raffle. Children will have the chance to meet Santa Claus in his workshop, accompanied by his elves, making it a memorable experience for young attendees.

Lyndsey Shakespeare, chair of the Burnside Parent Council, expressed gratitude for the support received from local businesses. “Every year, we get great support from many of the businesses in Burnside, and beyond,” she stated. This year, the fayre will showcase numerous local vendors, offering everything from homeware and beauty products to children’s clothing and books.

Significant raffle prizes have been donated by local organisations including Ace Place Nursery, HD Aesthetic, and the Caledonia Gladiators. Last year’s event raised almost £6,000, which was allocated to extracurricular activities, lunchtime clubs, and school trips for the students of Burnside Primary.

Head teacher Gayle McDonald highlighted the fayre’s importance, stating, “The Christmas fayre is always a highlight of the year for the kids and for the school. It’s also a great chance to bring the community into the school.” She added that the school looks forward to welcoming hundreds of visitors to kick off the Christmas celebrations.

The upcoming fayre not only serves as a fundraising event but also fosters community spirit, uniting families and local businesses in a festive environment. Those interested in contributing to the raffle or running a stall can reach out via email at [email protected].
