House prices in the UK are often associated with London, but a recent analysis has revealed that the most expensive street to buy a house is actually in Oxford. According to data from Mortgage Lane, Charlbury Road boasts an average house price of £6.68 million, outpacing many properties in the capital.

Despite London’s reputation, where the average property price over the last year reached £660,975, the findings indicate that Oxford is home to some of the priciest real estate outside the capital. Rightmove reports that the majority of properties sold in London were flats, averaging £531,115, while terraced houses commanded an average of £741,630 and semi-detached homes fetched £764,010. Notably, these figures show an 8% decline from the previous year and are 10% lower than the peak price of £735,620 in 2023.

The analysis involved approximately 3,000 recent property listings from the 40 largest cities across the UK, highlighting the unique position of Charlbury Road. In comparison, the average house price in Oxford was £560,288, with terraced homes selling for £529,581 and semi-detached properties averaging £598,336. This reflects a 5% decrease from the previous year and a 7% drop from the 2023 peak of £603,829.

Characteristics of Charlbury Road

Experts attribute the desirability of Charlbury Road to its historical character, green surroundings, and proximity to prestigious academic institutions. The street’s appeal is evident in the remarkable properties available. A notable example is a nine-bedroom detached house built in 1908, currently listed at £7.95 million.
