Manchester United’s new goalkeeper, Senne Lammens, has quickly established himself as a vital part of the team following his summer signing. The 23-year-old has stepped up as the club’s first-choice keeper after Andre Onana was loaned to Trabzonspor. Lammens’ arrival was unexpected for many, given his relatively limited experience, having only become the number one at Royal Antwerp last season. Despite this, he has made a significant impact, helping United secure three consecutive league victories.
Lammens expressed his initial apprehensions about fitting in with established stars at United. In an interview with Belgian publication HLN, he admitted, “Honestly? I was a bit scared at first. You always think players at big clubs are more independent and that you’re more on your own.” Contrary to his expectations, he found a warm welcome from teammates, notably from captain Bruno Fernandes, who provided reassurance.
In his first three matches, Lammens has received plenty of support from the United defense, which he describes as a confidence booster. “That was the best part of the past few weeks,” he said, highlighting the importance of support from seasoned players. “When they show they’re happy with you in goal, it gives them a lot of confidence. I’ve been able to give them the feeling they can count on me.”
While Lammens thrives at Old Trafford, Onana is also finding success in Turkey. His last match for United was a surprising exit from the Carabao Cup against Grimsby Town, which marked a low point in his tenure. Since joining Trabzonspor, Onana has featured six times, with his ball-playing skills receiving recognition. Reflecting on his form, he noted, “As I always say, most of the time, it’s my teammates who give me the options when I’m building up the game. If they help me, the work looks much better,” according to Sporx.
As Lammens prepares for his next challenge, Manchester United will face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground this Saturday. The young goalkeeper aims to continue his impressive form and build on the momentum gained from recent victories.
United fans are optimistic about what lies ahead, as Lammens looks to solidify his position in the team and contribute to the club’s aspirations this season.
