Rebecca Adlington Welcomes Baby Girl Thea Joy with Partner Andy

Two-time Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington has announced the birth of her daughter, named Thea Joy Parsons. The retired swimmer shared the joyful news via Instagram, stating, “Our family is complete,” accompanied by a touching photograph of the newborn.

The announcement comes after a pregnancy journey marked by emotional challenges. In September 2025, Adlington revealed she was expecting her third child with her partner, Andy Parsons. The couple already has a son, Albie Bennett Parsons, born in March 2021. Adlington expressed a mix of excitement and apprehension, describing the experience as “cautiously overjoyed.”

Journey to Parenthood and Emotional Challenges

In a previous post, Adlington shared that this pregnancy felt “completely” different from her past experiences. She noted, “Not many photos, no gender reveal, no baby shower,” explaining that her cautious approach stemmed from fear rather than a lack of excitement. She remarked, “Anyone who’s had a rainbow pregnancy will likely understand,” acknowledging the emotional toll of her previous losses.

“Being anxious and struggling doesn’t take away from how grateful I am to be pregnant, it just means I’m human,” Adlington stated.

Adlington has faced significant heartache in her journey to motherhood. She suffered a miscarriage in October 2023 and another loss at 12 weeks in 2022. Speaking candidly on an episode of Giovanna Fletcher’s podcast, she described the pain of having to give birth during her miscarriage as “cruel” and a “horrible three days,” likening the experience to a nightmare.

Celebrating New Beginnings

The news of Thea’s birth has elicited a wave of congratulations from friends and fans alike. Former hockey professional Sam Quek expressed her joy, stating, “Congratulations to you all. Thea is beautiful.” Other messages included heartfelt sentiments such as, “This has brought tears to my eyes, I am so happy for you all,” and “The biggest of congratulations to you all on the safe arrival of your little rainbow.”

Rebecca Adlington and Andy Parsons met on the dating app Bumble in 2018, two years after her separation from her ex-husband, Harry. Parsons, who works as a facilities manager, relocated from Liverpool to Manchester to be with Adlington in 2019. The couple exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony in Cheshire, attended by 80 guests, just five months after welcoming Albie.

As they celebrate the arrival of their daughter, the couple reflects on their journey, filled with both joy and heartbreak. The birth of Thea Joy Parsons represents a significant new chapter for the family, bringing a sense of hope and fulfillment after their previous challenges.
