The highly anticipated remake of Cape Fear is set to premiere on June 5, 2026, as confirmed by Apple TV during its 2026 Press Day. This new 10-part series draws inspiration from the acclaimed 1991 film directed by Martin Scorsese and produced by Steven Spielberg. The series will debut with the first two episodes available simultaneously, followed by weekly releases of subsequent episodes until July 31, 2026.
Alongside the release date announcement, Apple TV unveiled three first-look images featuring stars Amy Adams, Javier Bardem, and Patrick Wilson in their respective roles. The plot centers on a storm brewing for the seemingly happy married couple, Anna (Adams) and Tom Bowden (Wilson), when Max Cady (Bardem), the notorious killer they once incarcerated, is released from prison seeking revenge.
The series is created and showrun by Nick Antosca, who shares executive producer duties with Scorsese and Spielberg, ensuring that this adaptation maintains a strong connection to its cinematic roots. In addition to the leading trio, the cast includes notable actors such as CCH Pounder, Joe Anders, Lily Collias, Jamie Hector, Malia Pyles, and Anna Baryshnikov.
This adaptation marks the third screen interpretation of John D. MacDonald’s novel, “The Executioners.” The original film, released in 1962, starred Gregory Peck, while Scorsese’s 1991 remake featured Robert De Niro in the role of Max Cady, a performance that earned him an Academy Award nomination. Bardem now steps into this complex role, following a performance that remains in the shadows of De Niro’s acclaimed portrayal.
As anticipation builds for Cape Fear, viewers can look forward to a thrilling narrative that explores themes of justice and vengeance, anchored by a strong ensemble cast. This series is expected to engage audiences and evoke the tension inherent in the original material while offering a fresh perspective.
