Urgent: Woman Steals €70,000 from Elderly Man, Arrested in Plav

UPDATE: A woman identified as R.Đ, aged 26, has been arrested in Plav after stealing over €70,000 from a 70-year-old man, authorities confirm. The incident, which occurred on January 24, 2026, has sent shockwaves through the community.

Police from the Regional Security Center “North” acted swiftly, uncovering the crime within one day of the victim reporting the theft on February 19, 2026. The theft involved not just cash but also included $1,100 and CHF 300.

According to the police statement, the suspect gained the victim’s trust before entering his home through an unlocked door. Once inside, she pilfered envelopes containing €15,000, $1,100, and CHF 300 from his bedroom. Subsequently, she exploited her knowledge of the home’s layout to locate and steal a safe containing approximately €55,000.

The stolen money was hidden in a plastic box within a wall cavity in her apartment. Authorities discovered over €36,850 during the arrest, with additional funds reportedly spent on travel, luxury clothing, jewelry, and gifts. Alarmingly, she transferred €11,000 to her emotional partner, who used the funds to purchase a VW Golf VII from a dealership in Tuz.

After the victim reported the theft, police quickly identified R.Đ. and seized the stolen money and the vehicle. The authorities are committed to ensuring that both the cash and the car are returned to the rightful owner following due process.

R.Đ. will face charges at the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Plav for the serious offense of theft. Police continue to investigate to uncover any further incidents involving property crime in the area, emphasizing their commitment to protecting the community.
