BREAKING: Nine individuals are fighting for their lives following a mass stabbing on a train in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. The shocking attack occurred on Saturday night, November 1, 2023, around 7:39 PM, prompting a rapid response from armed police.
Authorities confirm that two suspects have been arrested, as more than 30 officers rushed to the scene of the incident. The attack took place on the 6:25 PM train service from Doncaster to London King’s Cross, where chaos erupted shortly after departing Peterborough.
This incident has been classified as a major event, with Counter-Terrorism Police now actively involved in the investigation. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer described the events as “deeply concerning” and is urging the public to adhere strictly to police guidance.
In the wake of the attack, a significant disruption is expected on the LNER rail services, affecting routes between London Kings Cross and several destinations, including Lincoln, Doncaster, Leeds, Bradford Forster Square, and Harrogate. Passengers are advised to postpone their travel plans until further notice.
Local MP Ben Obese-Jecty expressed his shock, labeling the incident as “appalling and devastating.” He emphasized his thoughts are with the victims and praised the swift action of emergency services, particularly the Cambridgeshire Constabulary Response Officers who were first on the scene.
“This is a shocking incident and first and foremost my thoughts are with those who have been injured this evening and their families,” stated Chief Superintendent Chris Casey. “We’re conducting urgent enquiries to establish what has happened, and it could take some time before we are in a position to confirm anything further.”
As of now, nine people are reported to have suffered life-threatening injuries. Eyewitness accounts suggest a man armed with a large knife initiated a brutal attack aboard the train, which has since been secured by police. Officers reportedly used a Taser to subdue the assailant.
Authorities have cordoned off the area, and train services are currently suspended, while road closures are also in effect as investigations continue. The situation remains fluid, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police. This is a developing story with serious implications for public safety and transport in the region.
