UPDATE: A man and his dog were struck by a vehicle on Westminster Road in Kirkdale earlier today, prompting police to close the road for an ongoing investigation. The incident, captured on CCTV, shows the man attempting to cross the busy road when the collision occurred.
Authorities confirm that Merseyside Police have cordoned off a section of Westminster Road, allowing pedestrians to pass through the area while vehicles are prohibited. The popular local eatery, Happy Dragon chippy, remains operational despite the closure.
Eyewitness Suresh Kumar, who works at Liverpool Superstore, described the scene: “I was coming back to the shop from the Cash and Carry when it happened. The man was running across the road with his dog and he was hit very hard and fell by the pavement.” Kumar noted that the grey Nissan involved in the incident appeared to have damage on its left side.
The accident occurred around 10:30 AM local time. Footage indicates that the vehicle did not seem to be traveling at high speed as it stopped immediately after the impact. “The dog was also hit but it ran away afterwards,” Kumar added. Police report that the man was transported to the hospital, but details on his condition remain unclear.
The police have allowed the driver to leave the scene while investigations continue. Kumar remarked, “Accidents don’t happen very often, but people do drive very fast around here.”
