Urgent Fire Risk: Stop Using Haier Tumble Dryers Now

URGENT UPDATE: Owners of integrated heat pump tumble dryers manufactured by Haier are being warned to stop using their appliances immediately due to a serious fire risk. The brands affected include Baumatic, Candy, Caple, Hoover, Lamona, Iberna, and Montpellier.

Authorities advise consumers to check their model and serial numbers online to determine if their tumble dryer is part of the recall. If it is, owners must contact the manufacturer for an urgent repair. Until the repair is completed, do not use these appliances. If possible, unplug them immediately.

Earlier this year, Haier launched a corrective action program impacting 103,000 machines. However, the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) forced Haier to suspend its initial repair program due to safety concerns. Following an updated modification, Haier has restarted its program and is actively reaching out to affected consumers.

Currently, Haier is prioritizing repairs for machines that had previously received modifications, with plans to organize repairs for an additional 85,000 appliances that continue to pose a fire hazard.

The risk arises from potential internal short circuits during normal use, which can lead to a fire outbreak. Affected owners are strongly encouraged to check their appliances as soon as possible and take necessary action.

“We urge all consumers to stop using these tumble dryers immediately,” an OPSS spokesperson stated. “Safety is our top priority.”

This developing situation highlights the importance of consumer vigilance regarding appliance safety. Stay tuned for updates as Haier continues to address this urgent issue. Share this information to ensure others are aware and protect their homes from potential fire risks.
