Urgent: 200 Trees to Be Cut Down in West Berkshire Due to Risk

UPDATE: West Berkshire Council has just announced that 200 trees will be cut down over the next few months due to safety concerns. A recent tree survey revealed that numerous ash trees are affected by dieback, posing a significant risk of falling onto roads.

The council confirmed that 25 trees will be removed along the north side of Ermin Street, near Hill Drop Lane in Lambourn. In addition, 120 trees along the A339 by Shaw Park and 37 trees along the A4 towards Sulhamstead Hill will also be felled.

Officials emphasized that this action is necessary to ensure public safety, as the declining health of these trees could lead to hazardous conditions for drivers and pedestrians alike. The council also noted that other tree species, including poplars, willows, and elms, are facing similar issues and will require removal.

“We anticipate that natural regeneration of local shrubs will fill the gaps,” a spokesperson for the council stated. This comment underscores the council’s commitment to maintaining the ecological balance in the area while prioritizing safety.

The tree cutting is expected to begin imminently, with residents advised to stay informed about the developments. The council aims to complete the removals promptly to mitigate any potential risks.

Stay tuned for further updates as this situation develops. The decision to cut down these trees highlights the ongoing struggle against tree diseases and the importance of proactive measures in maintaining safe roadways.
