UPDATE: Two people are in the hospital following a serious crash on the East Lancashire Road in Liverpool just before 9 PM on December 24. Emergency services, including the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS), were rapidly dispatched to the scene after reports of a collision involving two vehicles.
According to MFRS, crews were alerted at 8:42 PM and arrived on the scene within minutes, at 8:46 PM. Upon arrival, they discovered a chaotic situation where two occupants had already exited their vehicles, while two others remained trapped.
A spokesperson from MFRS stated,
“Crews arrived to find a road traffic collision (RTC) involving two vehicles. One casualty was swiftly removed using a longboard to assist. The other casualty was rescued by crews by carrying out a full roof removal.”
Both individuals were then handed over to North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) for medical attention and transport to the hospital.
As a precaution, the area near Vikings Landing is currently under a large police cordon, and authorities are urging the public to avoid the East Lancashire Road due to ongoing road closures. Traffic alert site Inrix reports that the road is closed from Lower House Lane in Norris Green to Stonebridge Lane in Croxteth.
Merseyside Police have confirmed they are actively managing the situation, with additional resources deployed to assist with traffic control and ensure public safety. The incident is beginning to scale down as fire crews prepare to leave the scene, but significant disruptions are expected as the investigation continues.
