UPDATE: The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) has just completed a transformative new garden at their LINAC bunker site, providing a much-needed calming space for patients, families, and staff. This thoughtful addition comes at a critical time, enhancing the hospital’s environment during challenging health journeys.
The garden, designed to offer moments of peace, was officially completed recently and is expected to be a refuge for those visiting the hospital. George Glennon, Technical Superintendent Radiographer, expressed his enthusiasm, stating: “This new garden is such a wonderful addition to our hospital site. It offers an uplifting space where patients and their families can relax when attending the hospital, especially the Lingen Davies Centre.”
This new space not only signifies the end of the LINAC bunker project but also marks a significant improvement in patient care at RSH. The LINAC machine, a crucial tool in cancer treatment, delivers precise radiation therapy while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue. The completion of the garden aligns with RSH’s commitment to improving patient experiences and outcomes.
Inese Robotham, Assistant Chief Executive at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH), noted the project’s importance, stating: “It is wonderful to see this project completed and the finishing touches put to the garden which will provide a calming space for patients, visitors and staff.”
The garden is expected to be particularly beneficial as the hospital continues to enhance its services, including the introduction of advanced technology in the radiotherapy department. The new cameras using DoseRT work alongside the LINAC to monitor radiation doses administered to patients, ensuring optimal care and treatment efficiency.
The completion of this project reflects SaTH’s ongoing efforts to enhance patient services, streamlining appointment processes and ensuring timely access to necessary treatments. As the hospital gears up for drier days ahead, the new garden stands as a beacon of hope and tranquility for all who step through its doors, reminding us of the importance of mental well-being in healthcare settings.
Stay tuned for further updates as RSH continues to innovate and improve patient experiences in Shropshire and Mid Wales.
