URGENT UPDATE: Major transformations are on the horizon for Sherwood Forest Center Parcs in Nottinghamshire, with planning applications just filed that promise to reshape this iconic holiday destination in 2024. The plans include new attractions, upgraded accommodations, and enhanced outdoor spaces, all aimed at improving the guest experience across the 400 acres of lush forest.
The proposed changes include the construction of a new three-storey holiday accommodation complex, which will replace the former head office currently used as holiday apartments. This new building will feature eight two-bedroom apartments and 38 one-bedroom apartments, including two accessible units. Each apartment will be self-catering with terraces or balconies, and 14 ground-floor units will have luxurious hot tubs. Authorities report that the current apartments are deemed “inefficient” and “oversized,” prompting this necessary upgrade.
In addition, Center Parcs is looking to enhance outdoor experiences with a significant lodge refurbishment project. The proposal includes the installation of new pergolas and an expansion of patio areas to create more appealing outdoor spaces for guests. The application states: “By increasing the size of the patio, this will make the outdoor area more appealing and will allow for each lodge to have a 3mx3m Aluminium Pergola added, which will provide a covered area offering additional wind and rain protection.”
But that’s not all—an exciting new attraction, the Treetop Glider, is also in the works. This thrilling rollercoaster-like ride will allow guests to soar through the forest canopy, promising an adrenaline rush like no other. A company spokesperson confirmed the positive reception of the Treetop Glider at Elveden Forest and noted that plans are in early stages for its introduction at Sherwood Forest.
The zip line track will feature a circular loop that takes visitors across a significant portion of the park, complete with a spectator area and a timber cabin for equipment fitting. The planning application for this innovative attraction is part of a broader strategy to elevate the holiday experience at Sherwood Forest.
As these developments unfold, the Newark and Sherwood District Council will review the planning applications, with decisions expected soon. The outcome could radically change the landscape of one of the UK’s first Center Parcs, which has been a beloved family destination since it opened in 1987.
Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available on these exciting changes, set to make Sherwood Forest Center Parcs a must-visit destination in the coming year. This is a significant moment for both the park and the local community, and it’s likely to draw even more visitors to Nottinghamshire’s stunning forest landscape.
