UPDATE: A daring wallaby named Rex has returned safely to the Lots of Love Farm in Williamstown, New Jersey, after a thrilling escape and a brief adventure outside a local Walmart. Rex was found at around 9:05 p.m. on January 2, 2024, following a concerted search effort by the Monroe Township Police Department and concerned citizens.
The audacious marsupial managed to escape from the sanctuary on the night of January 1, 2024, when a barn gate was left unlatched. As news spread, officers from the Monroe Township Police urged the community to keep an eye out for Rex, providing a detailed description to assist in the search. Unfortunately, inclement weather hindered the use of aerial drones to locate him.
Just hours later, a mother and daughter spotted Rex in the parking lot of Walmart, about one mile from the sanctuary. Their quick thinking led them to contact the sanctuary, resulting in Rex’s safe capture. “Well, if this didn’t become the best night ever!” exclaimed Lots of Love Farm in a jubilant social media post, celebrating Rex’s safe return. “He is home safe and sound! Thank you everyone, you’re all amazing. He must really like Walmart.”
The Monroe Township Police Department acknowledged the community’s role in Rex’s recovery, humorously noting, “Thanks to our local media, our officers are nationally recognized horse wranglers… but unfortunately, we haven’t quite earned the title of Wallaby Whisperers.” They admitted their support was limited, stating, “Rex is quick!”
In a follow-up announcement, Lots of Love Farm revealed that Rex will take a short break before returning to public view on January 5, 2024. A welcome home party for Rex is scheduled for this weekend, promising to celebrate the beloved wallaby’s safe return to his sanctuary.
