UPDATE: Avon and Somerset Police have dramatically increased patrols near the Aspects Leisure Complex in Longwell Green, Bristol, following a troubling surge in anti-social behaviour. This urgent move comes after a significant rise in complaints over the past month, particularly concerning groups of youths congregating in the area.
Authorities report that they have received numerous calls related to anti-social behaviour (ASB), prompting immediate action. Officers have been actively patrolling the site, but have faced challenges in identifying those responsible for the disturbances.
In a bid to combat these issues, a spokesperson from Avon and Somerset Police stated:
“In partnership with the management, we have created a new system where they will share profiles of offenders, people causing problems within the store. This will help us tackle ASB and issue banning notices to offenders.”
This new strategy aligns with existing pub watch and shop watch processes, allowing for more effective monitoring of repeat offenders. Police plan to work closely with local stores to utilize both police and ASB powers, particularly focusing on out-of-court contracts designed to deter youths from causing trouble.
Furthermore, authorities have coordinated with McDonald’s to integrate their CCTV system into the police’s monitoring efforts, enhancing the ability to share critical footage and respond to emerging issues swiftly.
As the holiday season approaches, police are also ramping up their presence around the Gallagher Retail Centre to reassure both shop workers and the public. This initiative aims to disrupt and address ongoing issues of shop theft and ASB, which have been persistent in the area.
Residents and local business owners are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as police work diligently to restore safety and order. The community’s response will be crucial in shaping the effectiveness of these heightened patrols and new measures.
Stay tuned for further updates as this situation develops and authorities continue their efforts to enhance safety around the Aspects Leisure Complex and Gallagher Retail Centre.
