People’s Kitchen Hosts Christmas Street Party, Aids 250 Guests

URGENT UPDATE: The People’s Kitchen in Newcastle held a vibrant Christmas Street Party on December 4, 2023, bringing together approximately 250 guests to celebrate the festive season. This annual event, just outside the charity’s home on Bath Lane, aims to spread hope and joy to vulnerable individuals and those affected by homelessness during the holidays.

Attendees were treated to an array of festive activities, including receiving gifts from Santa Claus, savoring piping hot meals, and enjoying live performances from a local choir and band. Street food vendors also contributed to the festive atmosphere, ensuring that everyone had a delightful dining experience.

Maggie Pavlou, a trustee of the People’s Kitchen, expressed the significance of the event:

“We’re all volunteers here, but tonight it is very special as we are having our street party for our friends. It’s great for all the volunteers to come together to help look after our friends that come across to us every night.”

The People’s Kitchen has been a lifeline for the community for over 35 years, serving up to 250 meals per session, all prepared from scratch by dedicated volunteers. Remarkably, the charity operates without any government funding, relying solely on community support and initiatives like the “Feed a Friend for a Fiver” campaign, which allows individuals to provide a hot Christmas dinner for just £5.

As Newcastle embraces the spirit of giving this season, the People’s Kitchen continues to play a crucial role in supporting those in need. The charity’s commitment to serving meals and providing companionship remains steadfast, showcasing the power of community and compassion during the holidays.
