Newcastle Thug Sentenced After Violent Attack on Partner

UPDATE: In a shocking domestic violence case, Dylan Finlay, a 22-year-old man from St Peter’s Road in Byker, has been sentenced after a violent outburst against his partner. The incident occurred on June 20, 2023, when Finlay became enraged after his girlfriend messaged her father, leading to a series of aggressive actions in her home.

According to court reports from Newcastle Magistrates’ Court, Finlay threatened his girlfriend, stating, “I’m going to smash your house up,” before unleashing his fury. Witnesses say he first kicked a baby gate, causing it to come off its hinges, and then proceeded to empty a bin across her kitchen, creating a chaotic scene.

The violence escalated when Finlay slammed a door against his partner’s back as she attempted to leave the room. Prosecutor Clare Haswell detailed the harrowing events, emphasizing the emotional toll on the victim, who described feeling “emotionally drained” by Finlay’s behavior.

After the incident, Finlay was arrested and later pleaded guilty to both assault by beating and criminal damage. His defense attorney, Michael Gibson, argued that Finlay acted out of jealousy, mistakenly believing his girlfriend was communicating with another man rather than her father.

Magistrates handed down a fine of £200 and ordered Finlay to pay £100 in compensation to his victim, along with £85 in costs and an £80 victim surcharge. This case highlights the urgent need for awareness surrounding domestic violence and its devastating effects on victims.

As authorities continue to address such incidents, this case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by those in abusive relationships. The victim’s plea for safety underscores the emotional and physical toll that domestic violence inflicts on individuals and the importance of robust support systems for victims.
