URGENT UPDATE: The Huntingdon Emergency Foodbank has just announced an immediate need for essential donations to support families facing hunger this winter. Founded in 2020 by local entrepreneur Iqbal Ansary, the foodbank has been a lifeline for the community, assisting approximately 20 families each week and providing food and essentials to over 5,000 families since its inception.
As the festive season approaches, the foodbank is ramping up its efforts to prepare Christmas and New Year parcels for families in need. The organization has released a list of vital items required to ensure no family goes hungry during this critical time.
“We began this work because there was a clear need and that need is still here today,” said Iqbal Ansary. “Through The Ansary Foundation and the generosity of local people, we’re able to make sure families don’t go hungry. It’s a privilege to serve this community.”
The foodbank has been consistently supported by regular donations from the Co-op in Godmanchester and generous individuals from the area. However, with the winter season upon us, the demand for food and essentials is greater than ever.
The following items are urgently needed for donation:
- Tinned meat, fish, and fruit
- Pasta, rice, and sauces
- UHT milk and long-life juice
- Biscuits and snacks
- Toiletries
- Gravy granules and stuffing mix
- Peanuts and crisps
- Christmas pudding and mince pies
- Chocolates and sweets
- Custard or cream (UHT/tinned)
- Savoury crackers and pickles
Local residents are urged to drop off donations at The Priory, 83 High Street, Huntingdon, PE29 3ER. Every contribution makes a significant difference in ensuring families have access to food during the holidays.
This urgent call for donations highlights the ongoing struggles many families face, especially during the festive season. As the need for support continues to rise, the Huntingdon Emergency Foodbank is committed to making a direct impact in the community.
