Ring, the home security company owned by Amazon, is launching a festive campaign to revive the tradition of carol singing by offering free doorbell cameras valued at £179.99. This initiative encourages residents across the UK and Ireland to share their own videos of carol singers, with the chance for their entire neighborhood to benefit from the giveaway.
The campaign was inspired by a viral video featuring schoolboys from Denny, Scotland, singing Wham’s classic “Last Christmas.” The touching footage has garnered nearly two million views, highlighting a growing nostalgia for the festive custom. In response, Ring has partnered with the Denny Five to promote #RingAndSing, inviting households to record and submit their own carol singing experiences.
Five households will be selected to receive a Battery Video Doorbell Pro, and if chosen, each household’s entire street will also receive a doorbell. Additionally, winners will receive a £1,000 Amazon Gift Card to share with the carol singers, with each party receiving £500. Dylan Thomson, one of the young performers, expressed his excitement, stating, “I can’t believe we have been able to give five people a great Christmas through RingAndSing! Merry Christmas everyone, bye love you!”
For every entry, Ring will contribute £10 to Strathcarron Hospice, further enhancing the campaign’s community spirit. The initiative runs until December 15, 2023, coinciding with findings from a recent poll commissioned by Ring, which indicates that 96 percent of respondents have noticed a decline in carol singing in their neighborhoods. The average individual reported not having seen carollers at their door for the past four years.
Dave Ward, Ring’s UK & International Managing Director, commented on the campaign’s motivations. “When we saw the boys’ video and read the enormous amount of comments celebrating their performance, we knew we had to do something special. In a world where we’re increasingly disconnected from our neighbours, these five lads reminded us of the simple joy that comes from showing up at someone’s door and sharing a song. That’s exactly what #RingAndSing is all about,” he said.
To participate, individuals must email their video link to [email protected] or share it on social media platforms like TikTok or Instagram using the hashtag #RingAndSing and tagging @RingUK. This initiative not only aims to rekindle the love for carol singing but also to foster community connections during the holiday season.
