Fast-Track Your UK Passport: Two Urgent Options Explained

Travelers in need of a new passport before an upcoming trip can utilize two urgent services provided by the HM Passport Office. Facing the possibility of a delayed passport renewal can cause significant stress, particularly when travel plans are imminent. Fortunately, these fast-track services offer a solution for those who find the typical processing time of around three weeks inadequate.

For those who require their passport quickly, the one-day premium service is an ideal option. This service is exclusively available for adults renewing their passports. To avail of this service, applicants must apply online and pay a fee of either £222 or £235 for a 54-page frequent-traveller passport. Following submission, applicants can schedule an appointment, with the earliest available slot typically two days later.

During the appointment, individuals must submit their old passport. The new passport will be ready for collection approximately four hours after the appointment, according to official government guidance.

One-Week Fast Track Service

The second option, the one-week fast track, is available to anyone needing to renew their passport. It also accommodates various scenarios, including applying for a child’s passport, changing personal details on an existing passport, or replacing a lost, stolen, or damaged passport.

This service is more affordable, priced at £178 for an adult passport (or £191 for a 54-page frequent-traveller passport) and £145 for a child’s passport (or £158 for a 54-page frequent-traveller passport). After submitting the application, applicants can secure an appointment for the following day. Typically, the new passport will arrive at the applicant’s address about a week later.

It is essential to note that neither of these fast-track services is available for individuals currently abroad or those applying for their first adult passport. The UK Government advises that if a passport application has already been submitted and not yet received, applicants should refrain from paying for an urgent passport, as this will not expedite the process and will incur a £32 administration fee for each additional application.
