Increased Landslide Risk and Traffic Updates Across Montenegro

The roads in Montenegro are currently experiencing dry conditions, but officials have warned of an increased risk of landslides. The Auto Moto Savez Crne Gore (AMSCG) advises motorists to drive cautiously, especially in valleys and along riverbanks where visibility may be significantly reduced. This warning comes as part of ongoing efforts to ensure road safety during the winter months.

Starting from now until April 1, 2026, the use of winter tires is mandatory for all motor vehicles on roads marked with appropriate signage, regardless of current weather conditions. In areas with winter weather—such as snow, ice, or frost—vehicles must be equipped with winter tires on all wheels. The minimum tread depth required for these tires is 4mm.

Landslide activity has led to a complete traffic suspension on the regional road R-10 between Đurđevica Tara and Mojkovac, specifically in the Sokolovina area. This closure is part of a critical point remediation effort to stabilize the road.

In addition, preparations for the filming of the movie *Battle of Motors* are causing temporary traffic disruptions on several regional roads on December 7, 2025. Notable changes include:

– On the regional road R-25.1 between Međuvrsje and Lovćen, traffic will be intermittently halted for up to 15 minutes between 06:45 and 10:30.
– On the R-25 section from Ivanova Korita to Međuvrsje, there will also be similar interruptions during the same time frame.
– The R-1 segment from Krstac to Trojica will see traffic stops from 10:30 to 14:00.
– On the M-8 road between Lipci and Grahovo, traffic will be intermittently halted from 14:00 to 16:30.

Further road changes will take place on December 8, affecting routes on the R-1 and R-23, with traffic interruptions not exceeding 15 minutes scheduled from 06:30 to 14:00.

To December 28, traffic management will shift from two-way to alternating flow at various construction sites, allowing for total traffic halts of up to 30 minutes due to the ongoing reconstruction of the M-2 highway in areas including Lepenac-Ribarevine and Poda-Berane.

The ongoing reconstruction of the regional road R-29 between Bar and Kamenicki Most will cause traffic stops for all vehicle types from 08:00 to 11:00 and from 13:00 to 16:00.

Due to roadworks on the Petnjica-Bioča route, traffic will also alternate flow near construction zones, with total halts lasting up to 60 minutes. It is essential to note that during weekdays, halts cannot exceed 60 minutes during peak hours from 07:00 to 09:00 and 12:00 to 14:00.

On the M-3 road segment from Plužine to Jasenovo Polje, construction work will necessitate alternating traffic flow controlled by light signals. In Podgorica, traffic has been halted on Vojislavljevica Street due to boulevard construction, diverting vehicles to alternative routes.

Motorists are also advised that due to routine maintenance along the “Princeza Ksenija” highway, one lane may be temporarily closed in the direction of Veruša to Mateševo. Extra caution is recommended, and all drivers should adhere to the posted traffic signals.

The AMSC provides technical assistance to road users, including roadside help and vehicle towing to the nearest service for all cars registered in Montenegro. The information center, in collaboration with the roadside assistance service, remains available to citizens 24 hours a day. Assistance can be reached by calling 19807, 020234999, or 063239987.
