Authorities in Montenegro have arrested four individuals, including three minors, in connection with the alleged theft of 48 livestock. The arrests were made by the Podgorica police following an investigation prompted by complaints from three affected victims.
According to the police administration, the incident occurred over multiple occasions from late November to mid-December 2023. The accused reportedly stole the livestock from auxiliary buildings and enclosed yards belonging to the victims in the Zeta municipality and the Dajbabe area of Podgorica. The estimated value of the stolen animals exceeds €3,000.
The arrested individuals include D.M., a 20-year-old male, and three minors aged 16 and 17. They are suspected of committing a serious theft, which is classified as a prolonged criminal act. In addition to these arrests, a criminal report has been filed against another individual, S.S., on charges of concealing the stolen property.
Investigation and Recovery of Stolen Livestock
The police have successfully recovered 19 of the stolen animals to date, returning them to their rightful owners. The investigation revealed that the accused sold the livestock to S.S., facilitating the illegal trade of the stolen property.
As part of the legal process, the suspects were presented to the acting state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica for further action. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to pursue leads and gather evidence related to the case.
The swift action from the Podgorica police highlights the commitment of law enforcement to address agricultural crime and protect the rights of local farmers in the region. As the case unfolds, it underscores the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with authorities in preventing such incidents.
