Anthony Gordon Must Boost Performance to Justify £100M Tag

Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon is under pressure to enhance his performance levels if he wants to live up to his hefty £100 million price tag. Former Newcastle midfielder Jeff Hendrick expressed admiration for Gordon but emphasized the need for more consistent contributions on the pitch.

Gordon, who has had a fluctuating season alongside his club, demonstrated his potential last week by providing the assist for Jacob Ramsey‘s winning goal against Tottenham. His efforts in the Champions League have also been noteworthy; he has scored six goals and provided two assists. Despite this, Hendrick believes Gordon’s overall output must improve to validate his market value.

In an interview with Fruity King, Hendrick stated, “I think he’s direct, he’s positive, and he seems quite clever. I’ve seen him do certain interviews, and he’s a real worker, making sure he’s fully prepared for the game. He doesn’t leave a stone unturned.” However, he added, “If you’re talking £100 million… I think his figures need to be better if you’re going for that price. I want better numbers from an attacking player, especially with the ability he has.”

Gordon is recovering well from a hamstring injury and has played a significant role in recent matches. He is expected to be instrumental when Newcastle faces Qarabag in their upcoming Champions League clash. Having recently returned from the bench to play the last half hour against Aston Villa, the forward might see a starting position again, particularly with Yoane Wissa struggling with injury.

So far this season, Gordon has netted 10 goals in 35 appearances and provided five assists. Notably, his six goals in the Champions League include three penalties scored against both Union SC and Bayer Leverkusen. As Newcastle prepares for their next match, fans and analysts alike will be keenly watching to see if Gordon can elevate his game and justify his extraordinary price tag.

With expectations high, the upcoming fixtures could prove pivotal for Gordon’s career trajectory and Newcastle’s ambitions in both domestic and European competitions.
