Ekwunife Claims APC Support Could Have Changed Anambra Election Outcome

Senator Uche Ekwunife, the Deputy Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the upcoming Anambra 2025 election, stated that inadequate support from the national leadership hindered their efforts to challenge incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo. Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Awka, Ekwunife expressed her belief that with proper backing, the party’s candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, could have secured victory in the November 8 election.

Ekwunife addressed party members regarding the ongoing e-registration process and the overall performance of the APC in Anambra State. She highlighted the unprecedented commitment demonstrated by local party members in the recent election but criticized the national leadership for not providing sufficient support. “If the party had given us even a 20 percent push, we would have gone far,” she remarked, underscoring a sense of collective disappointment within the party.

The senator emphasized that the unity and enthusiasm shown by APC members in Anambra were noteworthy. “For the first time, APC members were united and eager to win the governorship election,” she said, urging the national leadership to recognize their efforts. Ekwunife also acknowledged the role of divine influence in political outcomes, stating, “Power belongs to God, and He can give it to us if we work for it.”

E-Registration Process and Future Plans

Ekwunife urged party members to view the e-registration process as more than a simple headcount, emphasizing its significance as a critical database that will inform how members are empowered within the party. “The people registering are the real owners of the party,” she asserted, encouraging active participation in the initiative.

The state chairman of the APC, Basil Ejidike, expressed concern over low participation rates in the ongoing e-registration, indicating that Anambra and Abuja recorded the lowest numbers nationwide. The state coordinator of the e-registration exercise, Hon. Joe Okekeuche, confirmed that only 17,488 members had registered thus far. He identified Njikoka, Awka South, and Onitsha South as the top-performing local government areas, while Ihiala, Idemili South, and Anambra West lagged behind.

Ekwunife also confirmed the party’s endorsement of Bola Tinubu as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election, expressing unwavering support for his re-election campaign. The developments within the APC highlight both the challenges and aspirations of the party as it seeks to strengthen its position in Anambra and prepare for future electoral contests.
