Police Seize Weapons and Explosive Devices in Bijelo Polje

Authorities in Bijelo Polje have taken significant action against illegal weapon possession, resulting in the seizure of firearms and explosive devices. On October 20, 2023, officers from the Regional Centre for Security “North” executed a search warrant at the residence of a local man identified as V.N. This operation aimed to combat various forms of crime, particularly the illegal possession of firearms.

During the search, law enforcement officials discovered an array of weapons, including four rifles—a 6.15 mm Italian-style rifle, a pump-action hunting rifle, and two CZ hunting rifles. Additionally, they seized a CZ pistol with a caliber of 7.62 mm, along with 151 rounds of ammunition of various calibers, and a M60 cumulative mine. The authorities noted that while the pistol was legally owned by V.N., the possession of mines is strictly prohibited for civilians.

According to the police, the discovery of these items led to a criminal complaint against V.N. for the illegal possession and carrying of weapons and explosives. The authorities highlighted ongoing efforts to reduce the availability of illegal firearms throughout the country.

In a statement, the police emphasized their commitment to continuing both preventive and repressive measures aimed at decreasing illegal weapon possession. They aim to enhance public safety and reduce overall crime rates in the region.

Efforts to combat illegal weapons are part of a broader initiative by law enforcement agencies to create a safer environment for residents. The police will persist in their operations across the country, focusing on identifying and confiscating other items that can be seized according to the Criminal Procedure Code (ZKP). This proactive approach aims to ensure that communities are safeguarded against the potential dangers posed by illegal arms.

The successful operation in Bijelo Polje reflects the determination of authorities to address the issue of gun violence and illegal arms trafficking in the region, as well as their dedication to fostering a secure living environment for citizens.
