Pant WI Raises Funds to Support Equine Therapy for Disabled

The Pant Women’s Institute (WI) recently contributed £165.84 to support the Montgomery group, which has been promoting horse therapy since the 1960s. This donation, raised through a charity competition, underscores the important role equine therapy plays in enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities and long-term conditions.

Horse therapy has a long-standing history of providing physical and emotional benefits to participants. By connecting horses with disabled children and adults, the programme fosters empowerment and encourages individuals to lead fulfilling lives. The bond formed between the rider and horse can have a transformative effect, improving both physical and mental well-being.

Participants in equine therapy learn basic riding skills and progress to more challenging activities, such as countryside obstacle courses, pony games, and proficiency tests. Many also engage in dressage, showjumping, and carriage driving competitions. Evidence of the programme’s success was visible during a recent presentation, where participants proudly displayed their certificates and rosettes, highlighting the significant impact on their lives.

The event also showcased a short film that illustrated the benefits not only for riders but also for volunteers involved with the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA). This mutual exchange of support and growth enriches the experience for everyone involved.

At the end of the fundraising presentation, Janet Jones, President of Pant WI, presented the cheque to the Montgomery group. The funds were raised during a competition themed ‘A horse in any medium’, in which Caroline Buxton secured first place. Janet Jones followed in second, with Margaret Williams taking third place.

The Pant WI meets on the first Thursday of each month at 7:15 PM at the Pant Memorial Institute. New members and anyone interested in learning more about the organisation are encouraged to reach out via email at [email protected]. The upcoming meeting in April will focus on the theme ‘Eco-friendly Swaps’, presented by Kelly Kraus.

Through initiatives like these, Pant WI continues to play a pivotal role in championing important causes and supporting the community, particularly those with disabilities who benefit greatly from equine therapy.
