Montenegro Declares Day of Mourning for Tragic Fire Victims

The Government of Montenegro has declared November 6, 2025, as a day of mourning following the tragic loss of life in a fire that occurred in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina. This decision was made during a telephone session, where the majority of government members agreed on the need to honor the victims.

The devastating fire broke out on the seventh floor of a retirement home, where many residents were unable to evacuate due to mobility issues. The incident has left the community in shock and mourning for those who lost their lives.

On this designated day of mourning, flags will be flown at half-mast on all government buildings, local authority offices, and public institutions, in accordance with the Law on State Symbols and the Day of Statehood. The government emphasized that public, cultural, and entertainment activities will be suspended on this day, and music will not be played in hospitality venues to respect the somber occasion.

Media outlets, both electronic and print, are required to adjust their programming to reflect the observance of this day of mourning. The President of Montenegro and other government officials expressed their heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, Tuzla Mayor Zijad Lugavić, and the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the Chair of the Council of Ministers, Borjana Krišto.

The tragedy has resonated deeply in both countries, prompting an outpouring of grief and solidarity. The government’s decision to declare a day of mourning serves as a reminder of the profound impact such incidents have on communities and the importance of coming together in times of sorrow.
