Lancashire Footballer Supports Safer Sleep Week Campaign 2026

A footballer from Lancashire is collaborating with various organisations across the North West to promote Safer Sleep Week 2026. The campaign, which runs until Sunday, aims to raise awareness about the essential measures families can take to ensure babies sleep safely. This year’s theme, “Baby Necessities,” focuses on crucial items needed for safer sleep and assists parents in verifying that these products meet recognised safety standards.

Raising Awareness of Infant Safety

Safer Sleep Week is spearheaded nationally by The Lullaby Trust, an organisation dedicated to increasing awareness of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Tragically, SIDS continues to claim the lives of approximately three babies each week in the UK. The campaign aims to provide families and professionals with clear, practical guidance to reduce risks associated with infant sleep.

Local partners involved in the initiative span across Blackburn with Darwen, Blackpool, and Lancashire, including the NHS, regional councils, Lancashire Constabulary, and children’s safeguarding teams. These organisations are actively sharing safer sleep advice on social media using the hashtag #LSCSaferSleepWeek.

Key Guidance for Families

The campaign features messages and a video with local footballer Honeyman, who is joined by his wife, Aaishah Honeyman, a midwife with Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The video highlights several critical pieces of advice for families. This includes guidance on selecting baby products safely, such as mattresses and bedding, identifying items to avoid, and recognising misleading product claims.

Families participating in the campaign will receive support on these topics, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary knowledge to create a safe sleep environment for their infants. For additional information, individuals can visit lullabytrust.org.uk.

Through this collaborative effort, the aim is to ensure that more families are informed and empowered to make safe choices for their babies, ultimately reducing the risks associated with infant sleep. The campaign serves as a vital reminder of the importance of safe sleeping practices and the role of community support in safeguarding the well-being of children.
