Metal band Malevolence has released their new track, ‘Twelve To Zero,’ which serves as an anthem for the upcoming expansion of the popular online game World Of Warcraft. The song was crafted in a remarkably short time frame of just 12 hours, showcasing the band’s creative energy and commitment to the gaming community.
A Unique Collaboration with Blizzard Entertainment
This collaboration began when Blizzard Entertainment, the developers of World Of Warcraft, challenged the band to create a piece that captures the essence of their new expansion, titled Midnight. The challenge emphasized the urgency and high-stakes drama of the expansion’s storyline. The result is a “crushing, cinematic track” that mirrors the game’s intense atmosphere.
Guitarist Konan Hall shared his personal connection to the project, noting that he received a custom-made Jackson guitar inspired by his World Of Warcraft character, a dwarf paladin. Hall reflected on this connection, stating, “World of Warcraft and music are two of my favourite things. Playing the Jackson guitar on stage will remind me of the hours I spent in the taverns of Azeroth.”
Creative Freedom and New Challenges
Vocalist Alex Taylor expressed excitement about the unique challenge of writing a song in just 12 hours. He remarked, “It allowed us to get creative and have fun without the pressure of it being on an album.” This approach has led to a sound that may surprise fans, as it diverges from their typical style.
The track arrives in anticipation of the Midnight expansion, set to launch on March 2, 2024. This expansion will introduce new features to the game, including housing options, a new campaign, and four additional areas for players to explore.
The release of ‘Twelve To Zero’ follows a challenging year for Malevolence, who had to remove their music video for ‘Salt The Wound’ after facing legal threats from The National Trust. The band humorously commented on the situation, noting the absurdity of being pursued for filming in a public space frequented by tourists.
In addition to their latest single, Malevolence also surprised fans earlier this month with the release of another new track, ‘Silhouette.’ Their ongoing creativity and adaptability highlight their dedication to both music and the gaming community.
