The acclaimed romantic musical comedy Waitress has announced that renowned entertainer Les Dennis will join the cast alongside award-winning actress Carrie Hope Fletcher. The production is set to tour the UK and Ireland, with performances scheduled at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool from July 13 to July 18, 2026.
Producers Barry and Fran Weissler and David Ian for Crossroads Live expressed their excitement over the casting. Les Dennis, a well-known figure in British entertainment, will portray the character Joe. His extensive career spans over five decades, showcasing his talents in various roles across television and theatre. Notable performances include his work in Hairspray and Chicago, alongside iconic television appearances in shows like Coronation Street and Extras.
Joining him is Carrie Hope Fletcher, who has made a name for herself in musical theatre. Fletcher’s accolades, including multiple WhatsOnStage Awards, reflect her status as a prominent figure in the industry.
Les Dennis Reflects on Performing in Blackpool
Although neither actor has publicly commented on their upcoming Blackpool performances, both have a history with the town. Les Dennis, 72, previously appeared in Ghost the Musical at the Winter Garden’s Opera House in December 2024. He shared his fond memories of Blackpool, recalling his childhood visits and early career experiences.
“I’m looking forward to it, absolutely, because I know Blackpool so well,” Dennis noted. “I used to go as a kid and see all the summer shows. I did my first summer season with the Black Abbots in 1979 on the North Pier, and then, of course, I did it with Dustin in ‘85. I want to visit the Comedy Carpet again and find myself and find Dustin!”
Although Carrie Hope Fletcher was not available for comments during her last visit to Blackpool, she starred in Calamity Jane there in June. Her rising profile in the theatre world continues to attract attention.
