Dylan Dreyer has shared her thoughts on her recent divorce from husband Brian Fichera after 12 years of marriage. The Today host announced on social media in August 2023 that she and Fichera had been separated for “a few months.” Following their split, Dreyer and their three sons—Cal, nine, Ollie, five, and Rusty, four—moved out of their family apartment in New York City to a new home in the suburbs of Long Island.
During a recent episode of Today with Jenna & Friends, Dreyer spoke candidly about the end of her marriage. In her conversation with host Jenna Bush Hager, she acknowledged the complexities of divorce, stating that while each individual has their reasons, her separation from Fichera brought a sense of freedom for both of them. “Whatever broke in a marriage, you could either fix it if you can, and ideally you would,” she said. “Or you accept that it’s broken and you take this new step forward.”
Dreyer emphasized that their relationship has improved since their separation. “We are no longer husband and wife, and all those things that were broken, I don’t hold them against you because we’ve accepted they’re broken,” she explained. This reframing of their relationship allows them to move forward as friends, which Dreyer believes benefits their children.
The couple recently sold their New York City apartment for $1.99 million, after previously listing it for $2.49 million in November 2024. Dreyer had mentioned that the apartment lacked sufficient space for her growing family. In her farewell post on Instagram, she reflected on the memories created in their former home, sharing images of her sons’ bedroom, which featured a triple bunk bed.
“This room holds a lot of memories and I thank God every day for each and every one of them,” Dreyer wrote, quoting Ralph Waldo Emerson: “A house is made of walls and beams; a home is built of love and dreams.” She expressed optimism for her children’s future, stating, “the boys have a whole lifetime of love and dreams ahead of them! Just not in a triple bunk bed!”
As Dreyer navigates this new chapter in her life, her focus remains on providing a loving environment for her children while maintaining a positive relationship with Fichera. The transition to Long Island marks a significant step in their journey as co-parents.
