Montenegro Suspends Diploma Recognition from Megatrend University

The Government of Montenegro has temporarily suspended the recognition of educational qualifications obtained from Megatrend University and its affiliated faculties. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting held on October 24, 2023, at the recommendation of the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MPNI). The suspension follows the revocation of the university’s operating license.

The affected faculties include the Faculty of Culture and Media, the Faculty of Business Studies, the Faculty of Arts and Design, the Faculty of Law, and the Geo-Economic Faculty. The MPNI has indicated that the suspension will remain in effect until the necessary information is gathered from relevant authorities in Serbia.

According to the MPNI, this action reflects the government’s commitment to upholding educational standards and protecting Montenegro’s educational system and labor market from the influx of unverified educational qualifications. The Ministry emphasized that it is critical to ensure the integrity of the qualifications being recognized within the country.

The government’s decision underscores the importance of regulatory compliance in education, especially considering the potential risks associated with unlicensed institutions. The MPNI aims to maintain a robust educational framework that safeguards both students and employers from fraudulent credentials.

As the situation develops, the government will assess the circumstances surrounding the suspension and determine its future duration based on the information received from Serbian authorities. The decision has sparked discussions about the need for stricter regulations in the education sector to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

This initiative by the Montenegrin government highlights its proactive stance in addressing educational integrity and ensuring that all recognized qualifications meet established criteria.
