The Government of Montenegro has approved a subsidy of €250 for students enrolled in the Applied Physiotherapy Programme at the Medical Faculty of the University of Montenegro. This decision, made during a recent cabinet meeting, aims to assist students with their accommodation and food costs, which have been a persistent issue for many.
Students in this program have expressed concerns over the delayed disbursement of subsidies, highlighting the financial struggles they face. Unlike students at other state universities, those in the physiotherapy program do not have guaranteed accommodation or meals, forcing some to borrow money to meet their rent obligations.
In an official statement released by the Government, it was confirmed that the Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation, the University of Montenegro, and the Herceg Novi Municipality have collaborated to secure funding for the subsidy. This financial support will cover the period from September 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025, with each student receiving a total of €250. The Ministry and the University will each contribute €100 per month, while the Herceg Novi Municipality will provide €50 monthly.
Background on Student Support Initiatives
The Applied Physiotherapy Faculty was established in 2004 and has faced ongoing challenges regarding housing and meal provisions for its students. This initiative marks the first time that concerted efforts have been made to address these issues, following a government conclusion last academic year. Based on records from the Medical Faculty, a total of 116 students studying outside their place of residence, particularly those not from Herceg Novi, will benefit from this support.
This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to improving the educational experience for students in Montenegro, particularly those in specialized fields that require additional resources. By providing financial assistance, the government aims to alleviate some of the financial burdens faced by these students, ensuring that they can focus on their studies without the stress of basic living expenses.
As this subsidy program unfolds, it may pave the way for future initiatives aimed at supporting students in similar circumstances, fostering a more inclusive academic environment across Montenegro.
